Food Pantry Sunday
We’ll be
designating the 3rd
Sunday of every month Food Pantry Sunday. It’s important for us to
remember our local pantry as new families are coming in every month.
The time after the holidays is a rough time for the pantry as
donations are generally down during this time. Let’s see what we
can do to help!

When I was young I had always had a high school girl to stay with me in the summer when my mom and dad were working. My favorite was Jenny. She was fun to play with and I adored her. But there was one thing you did do, you never interrupted her when her ‘story’ was on television. Each day she tuned in to her favorite soap opera after lunch. The characters were almost real to her. They became like close friends. And Jenny wanted to keep up with all the secret storms of the days of their lives.
Most of us can probably remember when the TV miniseries “Roots” captivated the whole country. We were glued each night to the TV and that evening’s episode was the conversation of the next day.
Good stories are like that. They capture us, intrigue us, we just can’t get enough. Advent is the first season of the new church year and it marks the beginning of our story. It’s the story of two young people, probably both in their teens, who receive the most astounding news ever delivered. It is the story of their faithfulness in an unbelieving and incredulous world. It’s the story of the baby born them, the baby who is to be the Savior of the world. It’s the story of simple people caught up in heaven’s drama. It’s our story and we don’t want to miss a single episode.
The story begins in Matthew 1 with an episode in the story that many of us skip over. It’s the genealogy. It is fourteen generations of names most of us don’t know and can’t even pronounce, but these people connect Jesus the Messiah to the heroes of the Jewish people. This genealogy of Joseph tells us so much about the character of the man, but even more about the character of God. This beginning brings to life Emmanuel, God who is with us.
So stick it out, the story gets even more exciting!
